Scholarships for College Students

Idaho Society of Professional Land Surveyors provides scholarships each year for students in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying programs in Idaho colleges or universities. The amount awarded to each recipient is $1700. One recipient is chosen from each of the following programs:

  • Idaho State University Geomatics Technology (leading to a bachelor’s degree)
  • Idaho State University Civil Engineering Technology (leading to an associate’s degree)
  • One other Idaho college’s Surveying program leading to an associate’s degree.

Criteria for selection are GPA (minimum 3.0), faculty references and financial need.

Application forms are available at the ISU Scholarship Office.

All applications for the 2006 – 2007 academic year are due October 20, 2006. The ISPLS Scholarship Committee and ISU Technology Faculty will review the applications and notify those selected before the ISPLS Annual Conference. The awards will be presented at the conference banquet, where the recipients will be guests of ISPLS.

Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors

In addition, On May 20, 2006, the Board of Directors of the Idaho Society of Professional Land Surveyors approved funding for three $500 scholarships. They will be awarded to graduating seniors in Idaho high schools who will be entering the Geomatics Program at Idaho State University as full time students in the fall semester following graduation.

Granting of these scholarships will be based upon answers to questions in the application form, letters of recommendation and a statement of intent to enroll in the Geomatics program. To be considered, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 from an accredited Idaho high school. A transcript of high school credits must be submitted in order to determine if the applicant will have the necessary background to succeed in the Geomatics courses. Other information, such as a brief biography or list of academic and/or extracurricular achievements will be helpful.

Scholarships for "At Large" Non Traditional Students

At the August 18, 2007 meeting of the ISPLS Board of Directors, funds were designated for three "at large" scholarships of $500 each for non traditional students with an interest in surveying and some background in field or office work. Applicants will usually be employees of Idaho surveying firms. They will be required to submit at least two letters of recommendation, high school and/or college transcripts and a resume o f their employment.
