Objectives of ISPLS stated in the Articles of Incorporation are to:
  • advance the science of land surveying, in furtherance of the public welfare
  • contribute to public education in the use of surveys, maps and records
  • encourage improvement of college curricula for the teaching of surveying
  • support publications that will represent the interests of surveying
  • cooperate with ACSM in all matters of mutual interest and concern
  • foster and maintain high standards of professional ethics and practice in land surveying
  • honor the leaders in the science of surveying
Several awards have been given over the years to meet the goal of honoring these leaders in surveying.

1 ISPLS nominated Mr. McCarter for the NSPS "Excellence in Surveying" Award.
2 "Outstanding Service Award" for work as Editor of The Gem State Surveyor
3 Bill Greene of Meridian High School received the "Trig Star" Award, sponsored by NSPS to honor superior trigonometry students
4 Fulkerson Peak in north Idaho is named for Marshall Fulkerson, who was a major force in the early years of the organization.
5 David Curtis received the first "Friend of the Society Award" for work on the four year degree requirement.
